MATOUK REPOSITIONS ITSELF FOR THE FUTURE

If you drive past John Matouk & Co, the luxury bed and bath linen manufacturer on Airport Road, you might notice some construction going on. Recently, Matouk broke ground on a 10,000 square foot building extension, designed to increase warehousing capability. But what you don’t see from the road are 400 shiny new solar panels.

Last fall, CEO George Matouk Jr. gave the “green” light on the installation of an 84,000 watt solar-powered energy system, the largest solar system in Southeastern Massachusetts. This major investment, done with the help of a solar rebate from the state of Massachusetts began in November of 2009 and was completed in early February. According to Matouk, “Creating a business model that is both profitable and sustainable for the company’s next generation is at the essence of all our strategic decisions. Our investment in solar energy deeply satisfied both requirements. In the process, we also put our company at our industry’s leading edge of environmental responsibility.”

The installer, Borrego Solar Systems, Inc., has provided the company with a web-based monitoring system. Now the energy meter is rolling backwards and system will pay for itself in five years. You can check out how much energy Matouk is saving by visiting http://siteapp.fatspaniel.net/siteapp/simpleView.jsf?eid=399539.

In addition to the many changes to the facility’s infrastructure—the building extension is set to be complete by April 10th—Matouk has also been involved in a strategic planning initiative, an intensive look at the way Matouk does business now and how Matouk will position itself for future growth. Part of this process includes an overhaul of the company’s brand identity, including new logo, web design and packaging. George Matouk explained, “The economic downturn gave us both urgency and time to re-evaluate our way of doing business. In an odd way, the crisis was the inspiration for a period of incredible dynamism at Matouk.”

Matouk will be hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony on a date in March or April, to be announced soon, to which all members of the Fall River Industrial Association and will be invited.

Strong values, solid ethics and integrity... three attributes getting more difficult to find in today's competitive world market. Yet at Rex-Cut we have had the opportunity to exemplify and partner with companies and individuals who have demonstrated such traits-both customer and employee. Rex-Cut Products, Inc. is the oldest and primary manufacturer of cotton fiber abrasive grinding and metal finishing products in the world.

Since the early 1930's, we have been manufacturing a nonwoven cotton fabric, uniquely impregnated with abrasive grit. This "impregnating" process, originally invented by our founder Edward Hurst, has been refined over time, and continues to comprise the base of our specialized cotton product abrasive line. Abrasive wheels and mounted points shaped from this fabric based material are highly effective in the deburring and finishing of ferrous and non-ferrous metals throughout the industrial and metal fabrication sectors worldwide.

At Rex-Cut we have come to greatly appreciate and choose partners committed to standards like integrity, on time delivery, product quality and customer service-whether it be employees, customers, or suppliers. That being the case, we strive to exemplify a strong commitment to those standards in all we do. We believe that practice has helped Rex-Cut achieve the success we enjoy today. We at Rex-Cut are proud to be an employee owned, Fall River employer located in the community's Industrial Park since 1978.

On October 15th, 2008 Rex-Cut Products, Inc. became a 100% employee owned company, most of our employee-owners being from Fall River and surrounding communities.
